Not advice

Nothing on MedCodeSearch — a code's description, its status, its notes, its hierarchy, or its release history — is medical, billing, legal, or coding advice, and none of it should be treated as a substitute for judgment by a qualified clinician, certified coder, biller, or attorney. Coding a diagnosis or procedure correctly for a real patient encounter depends on clinical documentation, payer-specific rules, and official coding guidelines that this site does not reproduce in full. Always verify a coding decision against the applicable official code set and its current guidelines before acting on it.

Coverage and payment

The existence of a code does not determine insurance coverage or payment. Whether a service or diagnosis is covered, and at what payment rate, is set by the specific payer, plan, jurisdiction, and contract involved — not by whether a code exists in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, or HCPCS Level II, and not by anything shown on this site. A code being marked billable/specific in the official order file (see Methodology) means only that it is valid for reporting in that release; it says nothing about coverage, medical necessity, or reimbursement.

Currency of information

Code pages reflect the release that was current in MedCodeSearch's database as of its import date, shown on the page. Official code sets change on fixed schedules described on the Data Sources page; there can be a gap between an official publication date and when it is reflected here. If a decision is time-sensitive, confirm against the responsible organization's current official publication directly.

Independence

MedCodeSearch is an independent reference service and is not affiliated with CMS, CDC, or the U.S. government.

MedCodeSearch does not claim to be an official source, a government agency, a billing authority, a coding certification organization, or a replacement for official coding guidelines. It is an independently operated site that organizes and presents public official data for reference. See About for more on how the site is run, and Data Sources for exactly where the underlying data comes from.

Reporting an issue

If something on the site appears to be displayed incorrectly relative to its official source, see the Contact page. Reporting a display issue on this site does not, and cannot, modify official code data — only the organization responsible for a given code set can do that.
